I’ve never missed a Lagniappe Day since I started attending UL. I look forward to it every year. It is hosted in the Spring semester each year and normally in the month of April. A day filled with free food, drinks, gifts and entertainment.
This year was Lagniappe Day’s 50th anniversary, therefore the celebration was huge. My friends and I got in the line an hour before it started to be able to get the Lagniappe Day merch we wanted. When the event started, you got a t-shirt, a pick from either a stuffed alligator, cup or tote bag, and a pick from either a sticker, button, straw topper or croc charm. I ended up getting a t-shirt, tote bag and a straw topper.
I would advise you to not wash the tote bag in the washing machine. My friend accidentally got ice cream in my tote bag and I had to wash it. When it was put in the washing machine to wash, it came out destroyed. The vinyl on it was wrinkled really badly and the tote bag condensed into a ball and was beyond repair. It was so cute while it lasted.
My Lagniappe Day meal consisted of crawfish, corn, potato, lemonade, wedding cake snow cone, cotton candy and funnel cake. The crawfish was very well seasoned, huge and spicy. I enjoyed dipping it in a crawfish dip. The potatoes were yummy as usual and went well paired with the crawfish dip. The corn was sweet and juicy.

I’ve honestly always had flavorful crawfish at every Lagniappe Day I’ve been to. My pallet was cleansed with the lemonade after I was done with my crawfish. The lemonade reminded me of the lemonade they would sell at fairs. My straw topper was used on the lemonade and it was so cute.
The snow cone truck was Kona Ice. It was self-serve and the small cup was free. I put a lot of wedding cake syrup into my snowcone. It was refreshing along with my lemonade. I had the funnel cake and cotton candy after I finished my snowcone.
The funnel cake was very good. It was crispy, sweet and surprisingly still warm since my crawfish was eaten first. The cotton candy had two flavors. They didn’t list the flavors but I’m pretty sure it was normal cotton candy flavor and blue raspberry. At least, that is what it tasted like.
My friends and I went to observe the students rowing in the swamp. It was too hot so I left after I ate and went to cool down at The Vermilion. Lagniappe Day is my favorite UL tradition and I can’t wait for next year.
