Farewell to Student Publications

My time at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has been an interesting one. I transferred from a small private college a tenth the size UL Lafayette in the middle of the COVID lockdown.

Not long after transferring, I decided to change majors. This was a hard decision at the time but I am so happy that I did as I love my current major, architecture, so much that I am finishing my master’s degree this semester.

The best decision I made during my college years though would be applying to work as a Graduate Assistant at the Office of Student Publications. Before applying, I had no idea that this existed on campus but I could not have been luckier to get the position.

Working with The Vermilion and L’Acadien has gotten me more involved than I had ever been during my time as an undergraduate.

Since starting here I have done photography, helped layout the newspaper and yearbook and experienced rejection therapy when handing out yearbooks.

The staff at the Office of Student Publications is a diverse group of people and majors and I would like to thank all of them for the experience and the warm welcoming you gave me as the first graduate assistant.

My time as a graduate student has flown by and I would like to think that is because of the great time I have had working here. While I may not say it or show it, I am thankful I got to meet everyone and learn from them.

Finally, I would like to thank Mr. Tarver for giving me the opportunity. Through the good and bad times that have occurred during the short time I have been here, he has always brought a positive attitude and a smile to the office and I believe his leadership is the reason for the award-winning success of The Vermilion and L’Acadien.
