Parish Biscuit Company was founded in September 2023 by Steven and Kristin Laborde, a husband-and-wife duo who fell in love with food and the restaurant business.
This restaurant’s atmosphere, to summarize, was comforting. Every time I come here, the atmosphere is welcoming and I am always greeted with a smile.
My colleague and I had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant on Wednesday, Jan. 28. As we walked in, we were greeted by an employee, who led us to our menus on the wall next to the door and let us browse while we waited in line. When we got to the front, we went to the register and began ordering our food. We ordered an assortment of items from the menu, including Shrimp and Grits, French Toast, Onion Rings, Beignets, Biscuit Shortcake, and two biscuits: the Acadia (catfish Acadian) and the Catahoula (chicken and gravy).
After we ordered, we were handed cups and went to fill them ourselves. We decided to sit at a table by the window for warmth on that cold winter day. We waited approximately five minutes before our first round of food came. After 20 minutes, everything was served to us on the table and we began our biggest challenge: eating it all.
We started with the Shrimp and Grits, which were perfectly seasoned with sauteed shrimp as the main feature. The combination of flavors from the grits and the shrimp was comforting and rich. Next, we tried the French Toast, which was basically a biscuit, served with powdered sugar and a drizzle of syrup. It was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The Onion Rings were a huge serving, crispy and well-seasoned. Both of our biscuits came out beautifully presented, adding a unique twist to the traditional biscuit. The catfish and chicken were both equally tender.
Finally, our two desserts, the Biscuit Shortcake and Beignets, were another standout of the establishment. The shortcake, quite literally, was a biscuit topped with whipped cream and fruit, which I have never tried as a combination before. Both of them were equally as sweet.

I could tell that each dish was a testament to the heart and soul the chefs put into their food at this restaurant, making our brunch experience even more enjoyable.
After we finished our meals, I decided to interview one of the owners, Kristin Laborde. “This is actually like a dream come true… I love people… I love talking to people… food is a passion of ours and, personally, I like to see people dancing in their seats, A, with the music and B, with the food because they just like, never had food that tasted this good. We have high standards.”
When asked why customers frequent their location, she stated, “If the food doesn’t look good, I send it back, and you know, people come, I guess, because of the consistency and also the hospitality.”
Laborde also stated, “We stand apart from many other restaurants in town. Do you see the owners bussing tables or going around talking to their customers like we are? Yeah, it doesn’t happen often. But the overall experience, I guess, is just making people happy, especially through food. That’s the best language, as my grandma always said.”
“My favorite aspect of being an owner here is the freedom that you have… I love, you know, being a business owner… and watching it grow… and having a good reputation in this city.”
Overall, my experience at Parish Biscuit Company was enjoyable. The food was delicious, and the staff was very hospitable. The food is always consistent, whether I go here or bring my family. If you would like to visit this establishment, they are open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
