The rumor mill continues surrounding Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Billy Napier. With openings from Power Five programs such as LSU, Florida and TCU, all three have been connected to luring Napier out of Lafayette.
Monday afternoon, the rumors got even hotter with reports saying Florida representatives have touched down in Lafayette to meet with Napier. After firing head coach Dan Mullen over the weekend and virtually their entire staff this month, their football program is looking to do a 180 and start from scratch, potentially with Napier leading the charge.
Just rumors, but the two schools honing in on Napier certainly seem like Florida and LSU with the Gators hoping to beat the Tigers to the punch. Napier, a top-tier recruiter, has the chance to secure the high-caliber recruits that run through Florida each year. The chance to keep top talent in-state could give Napier success in the long run.
For LSU, the program has been looking into high-level coaches such as Lincoln Riley, Dave Aranda, and of course, Billy Napier. The Louisiana recruitment pipeline runs deep and with Napier securing top talent around the state year in and year out, it seems like a match made in heaven putting Napier in Baton Rouge.
With rumors circulating around Napier meeting with Florida representatives Monday afternoon, it’ll be interesting to see what happens over the next few days as the Ragin’ Cajuns close out the season.
The Gators ability to pay Napier handsomely and give him the resources to compete in the SEC run deep. Will Napier stay in Lafayette and continue building this program into a Sun Belt powerhouse? Or will he take his talents to Gainesville and look to lead the Gators to an SEC title over the next few years?
