Being followed around at all times sounds like a nightmare to most people. But, unfortunately for most celebrities in the world they have to go through this everyday. They are the big fishes in the pond that is our society and of course this comes with many benefits. Everyone is shouting your name and giving you all the love in the world sounds amazing, right? Well, it is until you have crowds of people flashing their cameras in your face every time you step out of the house.
In case you don’t know, paparazzi are freelance photographers who pursue celebrities to get pictures of them. Paparazzi pay close attention to where celebrities are going and if they attempt to go elsewhere they cut them off or just follow wherever the person is going.
They scream their names and yell out questions to them whether they are personal or not, even going as far as heckling children just because their parents are in the public eye. If you think about it, they’re almost like stalkers but much worse. The crazy part is that they are fully aware of what they are doing; they just simply do not care.
Respect is something that goes out of the window whenever they are doing their “job”, and multiple celebrities have expressed how much of a problem this is. They swarm whoever they are trying to heckle at the time and usually attempt to discuss negative things about them or attempt to catch the person at a time where they do not look their best.
The entire goal of the paparazzi is to gather footage of things that would bring them exposure and in the world we live in, negativity thrives. What they fail to realize is that those who are famous are still people just like they are. They deserve respect just like everyone else in the world does.
Paparazzi have done much more than just harass our society, they have even caused fatal accidents. In 1997, Princess Diana was involved in an accident that would cause her to lose her life due to paparazzi swarming her in Paris. Her chauffeur was attempting to get her out of the swarm of cameras and due to all his reckless driving there was a fatal car crash.
This event gave the world a real eye opener and made people everywhere in the world question the legality of paparazzi. Other artists such as Selena Gomez and Caitlyn Jenner have also been involved in accidents, but, thankfully, none ended in injury.
Now that the problem is clear the question is what can be done about it? Well, I am very doubtful that paparazzi will be banned but that would be the best action to get rid of the plague. Make some form of law or statement that bans them from doing what they do. It is very much clear the danger that they bring to the world. This is not something that is just a small issue it has caused death, injuries and so much more.
Furthermore, imagine how it makes celebrities feel knowing that they can not go out like a normal person. They can not go out and have a good time with their children without having to worry about harassment. Things of that nature could take a toll on a person’s head.
Paparazzi have no benefits to society and how action has not been taken against them shocks me. Maybe this will change in the future when it will happen? I have no idea but the evidence is there people have spoken out about it and it would do the world some good to have them reduced in some capacity.
