From March 9 to March 10, the annual Louisiana Comic Con was held at the CajunDome. Several famous guests showed up, such as a few popular cosplayers, several voice actors, a couple of actors, two WWE stars and even three of the yellow Power Rangers from the Power Rangers series.

I was given the opportunity to attend this year’s Comic Con so that I may write this article about my experience at it. Now my opinion may differ compared to some that have been to other cons before this one, as this is the first ever Comic Con or con-type event in general I have ever attended. So I don’t really have anything else to compare it to. Even so, the words I speak still hold true. I absolutely loved being at Comic Con.

From what I gather Comic Con is such a community based thing. You get to meet so many new people, many of which may be cosplaying a character from a series you like.

This could range from more widely known series such as “One Piece” or “Star Wars,” to the smaller series such as The Walten Files.

I should say that not all cosplays were necessarily the best, but I feel that isn’t the point. I feel like a lot of the joy from seeing these cosplays just stems from the fact you know these series or just the amount of dedication and love for these franchises that the cosplays display.

Simply just seeing other people’s cosplays is only part of the fun. I found it even more exciting to cosplay as a character from a series yourself and have people recognize you. In a way it feels as if you’re meeting new friends who like the same shows you do and it is such an amazing feeling. Seeing the different cosplays was probably my favorite part of the Con.

I took pictures with so many cosplayers at Comic Con and I had even had many cosplayers recognize the character I came dressed as and take pictures with me as well. That was probably one of my favorite things to do at Comic Con. As someone who spends a lot of time cooped up in their dorm drawing or watching YouTube, it felt nice to go out and meet so many new people. I even ran into a couple of my friends from here at the con too.

Now although cosplaying is, what I’d consider, a main part of Comic Con, there are still many other exciting things about it. One of which being the booths.

There were several booths at Comic Con this year. One of which was being partially run by one of my friends.

These booths consisted of a variety of things, such as posters, gems, plushies, masks, jewelry, shirts, figures, comics, swords and the list goes on. In every booth I felt there was always something I wanted from all of them, but for the sake of my wallet I had to stick to just buying things that I really wanted and could afford.

I think out of all the booths there though, not including the ones with all the famous people, there were two in particular that really stuck out to me the most. These being the sword booth and one of the poster booths.

The sword booth stuck out to me for obvious reasons. It had a collection of many weapons, not just including swords, from famous anime, movies and even games. They were all really well made and they were all actually pretty well priced for the quality. I ended up buying a couple of swords from the anime “Bleach” which I really like.

As for the poster booth, I felt it really stuck out to me due to the style of these posters. They all seemed to use a color blocking type of art style for them which, for those of you who don’t know, is an art style that I would say is most prominent for its lack of outlines.

Besides this art style, I feel the theming of these posters also very greatly contributed to my love for them. Though all the posters were based off of separate shows, anime, movies and games, they all conveyed the theme of travel.

Each poster contained a famous area from its corresponding franchise and laid it out like a travel poster. One of those posters you would see telling you to visit this famous place with a beautiful image of the aforementioned area to push your influence even further into wanting to travel to that place. This theme combined with the beautiful use of color blocking made these posters so eye-catching in my opinion. I ended up buying one based off of “One Piece.”

Next, there was the gaming area. Now I should say I didn’t play any games there as my main focus was seeing the cosplays and all the booths. However, I can say that the gaming area was huge and contained a large variety of different games for anyone who was interested in playing them.

Lastly, I want to talk about the events. Though I didn’t see too many of them, the ones I did attend were pretty enjoyable. There were alot of events and I wish I had been able to attend more of them, but I missed so many due to me losing track of time just having fun looking at the booths and seeing the many incredible cosplays there were. I will however make that up for that next year.

I had such a fun time at Comic Con, and it guaranteed my return to it next year. This time however I will be more prepared as I feel I have gained a good grasp of what to expect and how much money I need to save up before going.
