My friend and I visited this downtown Lafayette restaurant, and it felt like stepping into a different era. The restaurant felt nostalgic, with soda fountains and cozy booths. The atmosphere was very dim and moody.
We were seated immediately by the friendliest waiter, and there was no wait at all. Right after we sat down, the waiter brought us water, and we decided to try one of the sodas that they made with their very own homemade syrup.
We both got the vanilla flavor and it tasted amazing. We then both ordered the twelve-dollar special, which came with grilled cheese, tomato bisque and a Caesar salad. The entire meal (including my drink) only cost seventeen dollars, which was a great deal considering how much food we got.
One of the cooks came out to check if we liked the tomato bisque and we told him it was amazing. It was an amazing experience, and we’ve already decided to come back soon to try their ice cream.

Sunday’s Soda Fountain for a while now has been one of my go-to lunch spots downtown. This time with no exceptions the service was excellent the moment I walked in and asked for a table.
We sat in a nice quiet spot towards the back of the restaurant.
The menu had a variety of lunch and sweet items. I had grilled cheese and a custom milkshake with their Cake n’ Batter ice cream.
The milkshake was topped with a cherry and whipped cream. I like that the shake had just the right amount of sweetness that did not make it overwhelming to sip on.
When it comes to eating lunch, I like to try to eat light because as my mother would say, “My eyes are bigger than my stomach.” So the grilled cheese was a nice light sandwich. It had this garlic spread that really brought all the flavors together.
The music playing in the restaurant was mostly The Beatles which to me is a sign of a nice afternoon lunch.

I really enjoyed my experience at Sunday’s! Once you walk in, it smells sugary, sort of like a candy factory or your grandma’s house once she’s made fresh cookies. I liked that the retro 50’s theme was consistent throughout the whole place as well. Once I sat down, I noticed that there was water already waiting at the table, which was good because I was parched. The waitress we had was really nice and kept up a very nice rapport with us the entire time.
I also thought it was really cool that the owner of the restaurant came to our table frequently to check on us, which to me, showed that she’s really dedicated to the establishment and making sure that customers feel welcome and content with their service.
While my favorite part of the experience was indeed the service, the food and drinks were superb as well. I had gotten the Catfish Plate and the Cherry-Lime Rickey flavored soda. I cleaned my entire plate and drank my whole glass! Next time, I will be sure to try their shakes and other desserts as well. Overall, Sunday’s was the bee’s knees!

This downtown Lafayette restaurant takes its customers back in time. The interior was decorated with vintage soda fountains, checkerboard floors, and booths with dark ambiance lighting above.
My friend and I were seated at a table within seconds. As we sat down, our waiter served us complimentary water. We both ordered the same thing: the twelve-dollar special that came with grilled cheese, soup of your choice, and a Caesar salad. We also ordered one of their famous sodas (vanilla), which was phenomenal.
According to the waiter, all of their flavored soda syrup was homemade. The entire meal was a total of seventeen dollars, a reasonable price for a big meal. One of the cooks came out to see if our tomato bisque was up to par, and we said yes, of course. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at this restaurant, and I hope to try some of its ice cream and sundaes soon.
