On Sunday, Sept. 15, former President Donald Trump experienced an apparent second assassination attempt while golfing in West Palm Beach, FL.

Based on the New York Times, Trump’s secret service noticed an AK-style rifle pointing through some shrubbery 400 yards away from the former president. An agent responded by firing their weapon and the alleged gunman fled the scene, who was later detained by law enforcement.

The gunman, Ryan W. Routh, aged 58, had been plotting the assassination, even in hopes of videoing it, based on evidence found at the scene. According to his cellphone records, Routh waited close to 12 hours at the golf course.

Routh, however, did not fire his weapon during his encounter with the secret service.

The F.B.I. informs there is no evidence that Routh collaborated with anyone in the assassination attempt.

Routh is being charged with two firearm counts, one for possessing a firearm and another for using a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

The incident comes nearly two months after the former president’s first assassination attempt. Despite the disturbing events, Trump says he is safe and well.
