This October, the variety of fall festivities has raised excitement leading up to the big spooky day. All “partied out” and not sure where to celebrate on Halloween day? Here is a curated list of events to do on Oct. 31 in Lafayette, catered to different age groups and interests.

Starting off with family-friendly activities, “Trunk or Treat” will be held at The HeadQuarters Salon in Downtown Lafayette. There will be snacks including a caramel apple station, smores and drinks. There will also be games and trick-or-treating for the children, which begins at 6 p.m., and ends when they run out of candy.

Families can also take a trip to Zoosiana for “Boo at the Zoo”. Families can look forward to a Photograph Opportunity Spot and online costume contest. There will also be a “Trick-or- Treat” bag for children 12 and under, Bat-themed Scavenger Hunt, Gem Mining and more. Admission cost is the same as for the regular zoo admission.

Held at Children’s Museum of Acadiana, “Spooktacular Halloween Party” takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Activities include fun and informative displays like Witches Brew, Mr. Bones and Friends, Feed My Monster and more. There will also be a costume contest. Admission is $9, but $8 for attendees dressed in a costume.

Not forgetting a staple fall activity, a pumpkin patch that will be open on Halloween day at the Covenant United Methodist Church. The patch will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Special events include hayrides, food, face painting, arts and crafts and food truck corrals.

Lastly, Bridge Point Farms is hosting the first “Annual Spooktacular Drive- Thru Lights Display” from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $25 per car or truck, $40 per van and $100 per trolley or bus.

Moving onto Halloween parties held at local bars, The Yard Goat will be hosting “Halloween at The Goat”. Attendees are encouraged to dress as their all time favorite “G.O.A.T”, referring to celebrities, athletes, actors, musicians and other public figures.

The Monster Mash Bash will host its Halloween party at 5 p.m. at Le Grenadier. Attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite monster, ghoul or creepy creature for a night of spooky cocktails, live DJ and dancing.

Finally, what is Halloween without a good scare? For a more heart-pounding adventure, the Lafayette Fright Trail will be held at 5305 Cameron St. from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.. Admission cost is $30. Recognized as one of Louisiana’s most exciting and terrifying haunted attractions, Fright Trail invites visitors to explore 20 acres of eerie, dark woods filled with creatures that lurk in the night.

While Halloween may be a day to indulge in spooky festivities and parties, it is also important to maintain caution and vigilance at all times.

To ensure children have a safe holiday, costumes should not cause safety hazards. If children are allowed out after dark, reflective tape can be fastened to their costumes and bags, or they can be given glow sticks. These measures increase their visibility for drivers. Children should also always be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Everybody in general should always choose to walk on sidewalks over roads, inspect candy before eating, never follow strangers and travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with a trusted group of friends.

Put safety first, and Halloween day can be celebrated worry-free.
