The Beaucoup section writes about their favorite homecoming traditions! Below are their thoughts.

I have to be honest, in all the time I have been a student at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette I have never been to a homecoming game. As a child, I do remember going to a homecoming parade with my dad.

If I had to say what my favorite homecoming tradition is now it’s the “Wear Red, Get Fed.” I am a college student on a budget so if you tell me that free food will be given out well sign me up!

One of my coworkers told me about the most recent “Wear Red, Get Fed” and I, along with one of my other co-worker/ friends, were able to get free lunch. They were giving out KOK which I have only had one other time my freshman year.

When I was told I was being given boneless buffalo wings with fries I was so excited! I am always trying to find a new wing place. Maybe next year I will try to go to a game.

When I first started college, I would celebrate homecoming to the fullest extent. I used to go to the homecoming game and all the after parties that followed. Now, things look a bit different. For this year’s homecoming, due to the prediction of torrential rains, I planned on staying inside my house. However, thanks to a friend, I ended up in the stands cheering on our amazing Ragin’ Cajuns.

As my time here at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette winds down, I realize that I should probably try to be more involved in the homecoming activities.

Next year, I plan on going to and participating in as many events as possible, as it will be my last homecoming. I hope that I’ll have the time, as it will be during my last semester, and I anticipate that time to be quite busy. Let’s just hope that I can fully show my Ragin’ Cajun pride before I make my grand exit!

Homecoming used to not be important to me, but since coming to UL, I have learned to like it.

My freshman year, my EIC invited me to come with her to Yell Like Hell. A group of us co-workers went and I actually had a lot of fun.

They taught me line dances and all the chants that come along with it. We even got to yell when they called our name for the organization shout outs. So every year since then, I have looked forward to Yell Like Hell.

A new tradition I have learned to like is Wear Red, Get Fed. I recently became aware of it when I walked through the Quad and saw a sea of people in red shirts getting food. I then went in search of a red shirt and got wings!

Overall, I do love the vibe and feeling homecoming has here at UL. It sucks that it was raining and gloomy this homecoming season.

General Information

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette students celebrated the 2024 Homecoming in a variety of ways. On Nov. 3, different student organizations showed their Ragin’ Cajun spirit by participating in Paint Your Pride. This event saw students paint windows across the union that showcased the theme of “Starring the Ragin’ Cajuns.”

The Lafayette community displayed their Cajun pride on Nov. 5 with the Paint the Town Red competition. This is where the town is decorated in UL Lafayette decorations, along with red and white. Nov. 6 was Wear Red Get Fed where students who wore red were treated to a free lunch by local business KOK Wings and Things. At Blackham Coliseum, Nov. 7 students yelled their loudest at Yell Like Hell. The loudest student organization won the spirit stick.

Proceeding the homecoming game on Nov. 9, the UL Lafayette community came out to support the team at the annual homecoming parade.
