The Beaucoup writers experience Sneaux-mageddon, a winter storm that occured on Jan. 21. Below are their thoughts.

The night before the storm, I stayed up late to see the first snowfall. It wasn’t a lot, but it was exciting to see it actually snowing! I went to bed, content with my tiny snow experience.

I woke up floored to see the campus covered in inches of snow. I ran outside with my roommate and immediately started taking pictures, playing, and putting snow in my mouth.

Later, I met up with my friends and we walked to the park to play on the playground. I slid down the slide and went face first into the snow then ran to find the nearest swing. After a while of playing like children, we went inside and I took a nap.

After waking up, I went back outside with everyone to make a snowman. It was silly looking but we were proud.

Finally, I ended the day inside, cozy and warm, drinking hot chocolate with my boyfriend.

If someone would’ve told me that I would live to see a full on blizzard in southern Louisiana, I would’ve told them they were funny. This experience just goes to show that anything is possible. When I woke up on the morning of Jan. 21, I was thoroughly shocked. Outside my window looked like a scene from a Christmas movie.

I immediately texted my friend and coworker, Kay Padilla, because she was quite insistent that it wasn’t actually going to snow. Needless to say, she was just as amazed as I was. We decided to trek through the campus, exploring the terrain now covered in inches of snow. Although it was fun, I think we were both nervous about falling on our butts.

Kay and I journeyed to the office, where we met up with our other coworkers, Alyus Dick and Charlie Martin. We all went outside the office and played in the snow. Kay and I decided to try making snow angels, which was incredibly cold but super fun.

I was absolutely surprised when I woke up to my father telling me it was snowing! Then, I looked out a window to my front yard. I felt like a kid again because I was so excited to go out and play in the snow. So, I put on layers of long sleeves, my heaviest coat, a scarf, a hat and I was on my way outside.

Growing up used to primarily the heat, the cold weather took some getting used to. I was amazed at the amount of snow that acclimated around my house. It was like one big giant white blanket had engulfed the neighborhood I live in.

The first thing I did was walk around my yard and attempt to make a snowball while getting used to walking through the snow.

I have experienced snow two other times, but never like this. Usually, the snow melts early in the day. My favorite part about the snow was that I was able to make my own snow angel!

It was the first time I had seen snow in Louisiana. It felt like a fever dream as I made snow angels and snowmen, engaged in snowball fights and more. Simply walking around campus and seeing everything covered in a blanket of snow felt so unreal. The word “beautiful” could not accurately describe the sight. It was so much more. It felt like I had traveled to somewhere completely new.

I had so much fun throwing snow at people, trekking through it in my boots, sliding down frosted stair railings into the snow or simply jumping into huge piles of the chilly substance.

For once, I felt like a kid all over again. I wanted to do it all. Thus, I spent most of the snowy day outdoors, enjoying every bit of it. Of course, I have a bit of the sniffles because of that impulsive decision afterwards, but if the opportunity presents itself, I’d happily do it all over again.
