SATIRE – APRIL FOOLS

Celebrity Ross Lynch will be making an appearance at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Friday, Apr. 18 in front of the Student Union. The performance will take place from 5 to 9 p.m., concluding with a meet and greet for students to take pictures with the star.

Admission will be free for all UL Lafayette students and faculty. Family and friends will have to pay $10 for admission as they arrive at the check-in table.

Once audience members have either shown their University ID or paid their admission fee, they will be given a yellow wristband. These will allow individuals to leave and come back without having to check in or pay again. The color is symbolic of Lynch’s blond hair.

This event has been set up as a thank you for the hard work that the students have put in during the Spring 2025 semester and as a celebration for the beginning of Spring Break.

The playlist will include songs such as “Not a Love Song,” “Better Together” and “Steal Your Heart” from the Disney show “Austin and Ally.” It will also include hit song “On My Own” from “Teen Beach 2, and many songs from Lynch’s current band, The Driver Era.

After the songs have ended, students will be welcome to join Lynch for a photo in front of the stage area. Audience members are encouraged to bring an item like clothing or a poster for the celebrity to sign, but there will be a merchandise stand to purchase Ross Lynch t-shirts, hats and jackets for those who choose to do so. This stand will also sell concessions.

A team of UL Lafayette students will be preparing for his arrival by decorating the Student Union to look like a specific scene from “Teen Beach Movie”, in which the two main characters, McKenzie and Brady, first meet. The scene includes lots of sand, a projector showing an old movie, string lights and beach chairs.

Lynch is best known for his acting roles in “Austin and Ally,” “Teen Beach 1 and 2,” “My Friend Dahmer” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” He is also well-known as a musician and was previously the lead singer of a pop band called R5.

Freshman nursing major Willis Ikra says, “I am so excited to see Ross Lynch perform in April. He has been my favorite actor and singer since I can remember.”

Regarding the meet and greet portion of the event, some students are planning to go all out. For example, senior engineering major Mike Samuels says, “I’m going to get Ross to sign my arm and get it tattooed permanently.”

Others are not so enthusiastic about the star coming to campus. Senior accounting major Susannah Partypooper says, “I personally don’t think that the school should be funding events like these. That money could be allocated to better causes like new textbooks for the students.”

Whether a Ross Lynch fanatic or a casual listener, students are sure to have a good time to close out the semester.
